Villa Arancio apartments are about 250m from the main beach which is at the end of the avenue that leads from Sos Alinos to Cala Liberotto and then to the sea. This road ends with a round open space often used as a parking.
The shoreline of Cala Liberotto beach is divided into two parts by a characteristic
rock formation that develops towards the sea creating two creeks, a smaller protected one and a larger one with the characteristic pond besides sand dunes, rich in wildlife (many species of birds and fishes); this shape makes it one of the most beautiful beaches of Sardinia.
This pond is a nursery for fishes. As a result of winter rains, the natural barrier of sand towards the sea is shot down by the river current; young fishes, grown in the pond, take the opportunity to go offshore. At the same time the females from the sea come inside the pond to spawn.
During the spring, with his strength and perseverance, the sea overcomes the force of the river and settles back the sand blocking the exit of th fishes to the sea; fresh water filter into the sandy ground but the fries will stay inside the pond protected by numerous marine predators.
The dangers, however, are not entirely disappeared for the fries because the groups of canes along the pond are the ideal habitat for many birds and some harmless water snakes (there are no poisonous snakes in Sardinia).
To achieve these two fantastic and comfortable beaches you have to walk along an easy road or a little seasonal trail (open on summer) through the reeds; both paths are 250 meters long.
